In my focus of figurative landscape, my surreal use of colour in bush-land envelopes lone human figures. Bright nuclear colour and naive line render the landscape and figures so that, in their impression, the figure 'marks' the landscape similarly to the scattered flora on the land.

'Steve'

Acrylic and Charcoal on layered board,

146 x 90cm

The portrait is collective, showing a repeated, layered and interchanging side profile of my dad's face. Through the collective use of bright, simple and humoured colour in his flesh, there is an emotional spectrum that is encountered, and an enduring beauty found in the familiar contours of my dad's portraits. I appreciate each differentiation between the portraits, and recognise the changes between them as organic manifestations that, jointly, allow for a shift in my impressions of him.

City of Belmont (Emerging Artist Award)

At the Glasshouse, City of Belmont, Perth WA

'Arianna'

Acrylic and Charcoal on board, 60 x 90cm

The painting reflects my own identity and experience as an artist and a member of a blended family. Arianna my step-sister, shares a complex history with me and has played a unique role in my life. By choosing to depict my step-sister, she is a tribute to the power of family relationships to shape and define our lives. Arianna's eyes, for me, demonstrate her inner power. Her stare shows her resilience but also hints toward an intensity that is restrained. Through this work of art, I hope to inspire viewers to reflect on their own connections to the people and communities that have helped shape them into who they are today.

Womxn 2021

Artist in Residency program and exhibition

At ECU Hub, Mount Lawley WA

Curated by Olivia Cojia

Womxn is curated and directed by Olivia Cojia with the mission to create sustainable practices and opportunities for women and non-binary people in the arts. My work for Womxn 2021 was inspired by my experience with family and my personal connection with my younger siblings. In my work I translate feelings of grief and compassion, as I have grown into a young adult and my siblings were still children. My shared experience with them growing up, and later, living apart from them was cause to confront and analyse my feelings towards this in my painting.

ARTSHUM 2020 EXHIBITION PAINTINGS

Jared's Head

The two portraits of my step-brother are supposed to depict the inside-out struggle of being human and that there are variant ways of "being".

The paintings are influenced by Francis Bacon and George Baselitz portraits
